MONDAY: Vintners, mercers, merchants, drapers. Until noon. Then the priests and mariners.(1000 men)
TUESDAY: Tailors & clothworkers, tent makers, fullers & “celers”. (400 men)
WEDNESDAY: The cordwainers, tanners & butchers. (300 men)
THURSDAY: Fishermen & hucksters & wainwrights (530 men)
FRIDAY: Trade illegible… but numbered 350 men.
SATURDAY: Carpenters, blacksmiths & masons. (350 men)
SUNDAY: The ladies of the town. (No man dared to count them)
Definitions:
Fuller.. a person whose occupation is fulling cloth.( From the medieval period, however, fulling often was carried out in a water mill. These processes are followed by stretching the cloth on great frames known as tenters, to which it is attached by tenterhooks. It is from this process that the phrase being on tenterhooks is derived, as meaning to be held in suspense.)
Cordwainers…. Shoemakers
Wainwright….a wagon-builder.
Mercer…..a dealer in textile fabrics, especially silks, velvets, and other fine materials.
